A guide to Madrid's nightlife

Alike it’s famous neighbours Madrid also boasts exciting night life in particular if you are there for the weekend. Often overshadowed by it’s sister Barcelona but Madrid holds its own boasting a cosmopolitan city vibe mixed with traditional old town heritage. Tourists can be seen mixing along with locals in city squares and quant tapas restaurants  and wine bars.

Huertas

Possibly the capital of nightlife in Madrid’s city centre Huertas square and it’s surrounding side streets offer something to suit every taste.

Locals and tourists alike can be seen eating al fresco in the square surrounded by musicians with he vino running. Long summers nights are spent dining with friends whilst indulging in tapas, wine and cigarettes.

Smaller quant tapas and wine bars can be found down the side streets here. Step inside and grab a window seat to be immersed in traditional Spanish dining. A cosy atmosphere is contagious as you people watch as locals pass by meeting friends for the weekend marcha.

After sampling Huertas square and it’s smaller companions the young and the young at heart can head to the nightclubs for a real dance. A mix of Spanish and international artists are blasted out by the DJ as the drinks flow in some of the latest clubs in the city. As locals let off some steam and show some passion for dancing this is a spot not to be missed.

Plaza Mayor

For a quieter meal still surrounded by history and architecture head to Plaza Mayor. Dine alfresco in the square and watch the world go by. Street artists can be seen and heard playing instruments and blowing bubbles for all to see.

Gran Via

The Gran Via is truly the street that never sleeps. Shops stay open late even on a Sunday and cafes are packed both inside and their terraces as the sun sets over the city. Head up to one of the Gran Via’s roof top bars for cocktails to start your night the right way.

Flamenco shows

Dining and drinking whilst watching this Spanish past time is a must to truly gain the true feeling of Madrid. We recommend watching at Cash Patas one of Madrid’s most famous stages. Dine amongst friends as you watch in awe at this delightful past time.

Musicals and live music performances

Catering for every taste does the live music performances in Madrid’s city centre. Elegantly dressed men and women can be seen heading out to the opera and ballet. Showcased from some of Madrid’s oldest buildings whilst hit musicals such as the lion king can be seen in theatres on the Gran Via.

Choclateria San Gines

Every night should be rounded off by churros and hot chocolate and there is no place better than Choclateria San Gines. Don’t be scared by the line to be served this just proves it’s worth. Grab a seat outside under the arch way to make the most of this experience.

Temple de Debod

For those feeling a cosier night than one out on the town head out to the Temple de Debod and watch as the sun sets over the temple. The temple and it’s fountain come alive to the twilight sky as the lights turn to give off a magical glow. We recommend getting there early to score the best seat!
