Top tips for climbing Adam’s Peak

Adam's peak

Adam’s Peak is must climb when you visit Sri Lanka. Getting to the top of the mountain rewards you with excellent views over the nearby towns and beyond.

We have put together a list of the top tips you need to know to make the climb.

1. Stay in Hatton, it’s the closest town to the peak and most of the hotels are in walking distance to the start of the track. (We stayed at Grand Adam’s Peak and it was brilliant. Tasty food with views overlooking the peak!)

2. Get to the top for sunrise! Leave the hotel at around 2:00am to make it to the peak for amazing views of sunset.

3. Entrance to Adam’s Peak is free, so no need to pay the monks positioned throughout the climb asking for donations.

4. Stop at the various tea stops for a well earned break, and a chance to meet fellow travellers climbing to the top! 5. There is no tea shop at the top, so make sure you grab something hot at the last tea stop because it’s freezing at the top!

6. Wrap up warm, its absolutely freezing at the top so make sure your wearing a jacket, warm clothes and a hat if you have one!

7. Take water from a shop in Hatton to the top as the water sold at the tea stops is water from the lake which not all foreigners stomachs can handle.

8. Most days the peak is covered in cloud from around 9:00am so make sure you get to the top as early as possible!

9. Take a torch if you hike up before sunrise!

10. You do not need a guide! You will be surrounded by others also doing the climb and the way is sign posted the whole way up! Adam's Peak sunrise
